What made me the coolest Mom ever.

If you’re my Facebook friend, you probably know that I did a really big dummy thing a couple of weeks ago.  I don’t recommend it.

Don’t sunscreen your kids.  Well, do sunscreen them (I know. Sunscreen isn’t a verb. But I like to make stuff up that sounds good to me).  But don’t sunscreen them, and then pick up your laptop.  Big dummy thing to do.  Without washing your greasy hands first.  Or at least wiping them on your sundress, y’all.

I dropped my laptop, and it hit the kitchen table.  I dropped it maybe 6 inches.  Maybe. And crash went my hard drive.  RIP.  As in, adios hard drive.  Bye-bye.

And then I went into a grieving state.

Long story long, all of my client images were backed up.  But not my 2010 personal photos and videos (see above re: said grieving state).  We’re still in the process of attempting recovery.  Some of it is just gone.  Fingers crossed that most of it is recoverable.

So, I did a little dance when I found these photos from February.  It was the day of the Beaver Snack.

Bread + circle cookie cutter + cinnamon sugar + raisins + banana + peanut butter = the infamous Beaver Snack.

Mac and Lily will tell you that it’s the best snack ever.

The scoop: Grab some bread.  Toast it for just a sec, and put a little butter on it.

Cut a circle out of each piece, and cut the corners off and make little triangles.  Then let the kids take over.

Sprinkle them with the cinnamon sugar mixture (not the kids, the beaver faces).

He gets banana circles for the eyeballs with a raisin in the center – a beaver needs pupils, you know.

Then Mr. Beaver Man gets a dollop of peanut butter for his nose.  And small pieces of banana for his teeth.  And then your kids cheer because your the coolest Mom ever.

And then you whisper a prayer of thanks that they’re still little enough to think you’re the coolest Mom ever.  And for their smallness and sweetness, despite the tantrums that still occur at the ages of almost 4 and 5.

And then you laugh, as your little boy makes beaver teeth at you.  And your little dives right in.  She has no time for beaver faces.

Happy Thursday!

And this, dear friends, is why I love working with children…

I have watched it 5 times, and I will watch it at least 5 more.

You will smile big.

Meet Miss Positivity.

You Had Me At Sock Monkey | Cincinnati Newborn Photographer

If I wrote a letter to him, this is what it would say: “Dear baby Sebastian, you are perfect.  The perfect-ist.  Your tiny little nose, your sweet little baby noises, your big bright eyes that seem wise and your little soul that seems older than 8 days, the way that you melt into your Daddy’s chest when he holds you, and the way that you respond to your Mommy’s “sshhh shhhhh shhhhh” and the way she rubs your face so gently with her finger.  You are perfection.  And you had me at sock monkey.”

When I saw it in his room, I think I gasped.  Oh, mr. sock monkey, how I love you.  And I love you even more now that I know you were a Father’s Day gift for Sebastian’s Daddy.

When a new baby enters the world and into his parents’ lives, things seem to immediately change.  There’s this natural love, this feeling that people try to explain to you, but you just can’t understand until your baby is in your arms.  And this Mama?  She’s such a natural.  She has this calm, laid back way that I think is unusual in a new Mom [ ahem - I wouldn't know about a Mom who's a nervous wreck with her first.  Because I was SO calm.].  She was so patient and just plain wonderful.

I adore the next photo.  That’s one happy, proud Daddy.  Who loves his boy so much already.  It was so obvious to me.  What an amazing job I have.  To experience this.

He’s also the smartest baby in the universe.  Because when his Mama wasn’t looking, I told him to wave.  I said, “Sebastian, wave to your Mommy and Daddy.”  And he totally did.

Can you stand it?  The cheeks.  I know you want to kiss ‘em.

I also told him to smile for the camera.  I said, “Sebastian, make your Mama and Daddy happy.  Give us a smile.  Wait, wait, wait, okay right NOW.”  And click went my camera.  Told ya.  Smart boy.;-)

I love, big love this one.  A new family of 3 all snuggled up.  Baby’s tiny feet.  Her ring.  His watch.  Sweet baby boy looking up at his Mama.  L-o-v-e it.

Natalie and John – it was nothing but a pleasure.  Thank you for giving me the privilege of capturing these first memories for you, for always.  It was an honor to witness your love and that you trust me to take it, and turn it into something even more beautiful than it already is.  Grateful, appreciative me.

Perfect

Perfect weather.  Perfect couple.  Perfect kiss.  Perfect day.

Oh, how I love this photo (it makes me feel all emotional).

Oh, how I love the 2 people in it (this is my bestie Jennifer and her man – both of them have big, big spots in my heart).

Oh, how I can’t wait to blog more (there are many more to come).

One happy chic | Cincinnati Children’s Portrait Photographer

Don’t fall over or anything.

Because I know you’ll want to.

It’s been months and months of anticipation.  I know you’ve been on the edge of your seat.

The new blog.  It’s here to stay.

And I am one happy chic.

I’m so giddy that I just have to post one photo, just because…

My sweet Mac.  And don’t you worry that he’s sad.  He’s not.  He’s just very much into his Tranformers show.

I [big heart] those freckles.  I kiss them every day.  In case you were wondering.

Be back tomorrow, y’all.
